The Relaxation Response (RR) is a natural state in which you experience profound rest in both body & mind. It is the opposite of stress. When you allow your mind/body to experience this innate possible state, you have better access to memories, understanding, learning, creativity, positive emotions; self-control, reasoning, planning, and other executive functions--in fact, all the best parts of being human.

Regularly eliciting this neurophysiological reaction allows you to increase overall health and resilience, reduce suffering from stress-related symptoms and illnesses, reduce your likelihood of developing debilitating, stress-triggered illnesses, increase well being and enjoyment in living.

Reduction in perceived stress & an increased sense of control & purpose in life have been shown in as little as 5 days of relaxation response activation.

Specific applications where RR has been used to
  • lessen physical symptoms from conditions such as hypertension, IBS, nausea, insomnia, & more.
  • decrease pain & use of pain medications
  • decrease anxiety and depression
  • decrease healthcare costs with less need for doctor visits, reduced medication reliance
  • prepare for medical procedures, treatments, & tests
  • promote healing & recovery
  • protect long-term health
  • enhance inner strengths, resiliency, optimism, & self-esteem
  • increase self-awareness
  • change destructive negative thought patterns

SMART developed from research into the Relaxation Response, your body & brain's innate system of turning off your Stress Response.
By regularly eliciting the RR response and developing adaptive attitudes and behaviors that promote well-being, you will enhance your resilience, reduce the effects of stress, & lower your risk of developing serious & chronic illness .
